Moscow: Russia on Wednesday condemned US President Donald Trump's proposal to take control of the Gaza Strip, labeling it as an example of Western 'cancel culture.' The comments were made during a roundtable meeting on Ukraine with ambassadors in Moscow, where Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed his concerns over the emerging trend.

According to Anadolu Agency, Lavrov pointed out that this 'culture of cancellation' is becoming increasingly apparent in the context of the Middle East conflict. He emphasized that the decisions of the UN Security Council, which were widely accepted a month and a half ago as essential for the establishment of a Palestinian state, have now been effectively disregarded.

The controversy arose following a press conference in Washington on Tuesday, where Trump, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced plans for the US to 'take over' Gaza. The proposed redevelopment plan involves relocating Palestinians and transforming the area into what Trump described as 'the Riviera of the Middle East.'
