Russia Seeks to Revitalize Intergovernmental Commission with Colombia.

Moscow: Russia's top diplomat expressed optimism on Thursday about the potential resumption of an intergovernmental commission with Colombia, coinciding with a visit from Colombia's Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo to Moscow. Sergey Lavrov, Russia's Foreign Minister, emphasized the importance of strengthening trade, economic, and commercial relations between the two countries. He expressed hope that the intergovernmental bilateral commission on trade, economic, and scientific-technical cooperation would resume its work next year. According to Anadolu Agency, Lavrov described Colombia as a long-standing partner and underscored the significance of maintaining regular contacts between the foreign ministries and parliamentarians of both nations. He highlighted the close educational ties between Moscow and Bogota, noting that the current visit provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral affairs and cooperation in the international arena. Lavrov also highlighted the value of bilateral cultural and humanita rian contacts and extended his congratulations to Colombia for its election to the UN Human Rights Council for the 2025-2027 term. In response, Colombian Foreign Minister Murillo expressed Colombia's desire to transform its global image and be seen as a nation promoting peace. He mentioned ongoing efforts within Colombia to engage in talks with rebel groups, including the National Liberation Army. The discussions between Lavrov and Murillo also covered key international issues, notably the conflicts in Ukraine and Palestine. A statement released after the talks revealed that plans were made to further deepen cooperation on international platforms. Russia reaffirmed its readiness to support international efforts coordinated by the UN Security Council to promote peacebuilding in Colombia.
