Russia Threatens Retaliation Over Moldova’s Diplomat Expulsion

Chisinau:Moscow Russia has issued a warning of a "firm response" following Moldova's decision to declare a Russian embassy staff member in Chisinau persona non grata, labeling the move as a "hostile action." The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that these actions by the Moldovan leadership would not go unanswered.

According to Anadolu Agency – English, Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced the expulsion on Friday, citing a violation of the country's airspace by a Russian-made Geran attack drone, which allegedly crashed near family homes and an energy facility. However, Russia has denied the allegations, stating that no evidence was provided to support the claim about the drone's origin.

The Russian Foreign Ministry criticized Moldova's decision as part of a broader anti-Russian policy by Chisinau, aimed at dismantling the longstanding relations between the two countries. The ministry further accused Moldova of having expelled several Russian diplomats in recent years under false pretenses or without justification, which it claims is an attempt to hinder the operations of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.

Additionally, the ministry expressed concern that Moldovan citizens are being adversely affected by these actions, as they face challenges accessing consular services and other assistance from Russian diplomatic missions.
