Russia-US Diesel Deal Opens Doors for Further Cooperation

Moscow:A senior Russian official has announced that the recent agreement between Russia and the United States to supply Russian diesel fuel to American and global markets presents numerous opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian presidential envoy, emphasized during the Russian Energy Week forum in Moscow that the collaboration is not limited to diesel supplies but extends to broader economic and investment opportunities that could benefit both nations and global markets.

Dmitriev indicated that continued engagement with the US on economic and investment projects is a priority for Russia. He highlighted that Russia aims to demonstrate to Washington, through practical examples, that US-imposed sanctions primarily harm American citizens and farmers. While he acknowledged the positive impact of lifting sanctions on Russian diesel fuel, Dmitriev noted that implementing these supplies would present 'significant challenges.' He assured that Russia is working alongside the US to overcome these obstacles, reaffirming the commitment to supply diesel fuel and achieve cooperative results.

Dmitriev also accused some of Russia's 'opponents' of attempting to undermine the diesel deal. However, he noted that Moscow remains in constant communication with the US regarding the signing of contracts, which are expected to be finalized soon.

The deal, unveiled by former President Donald Trump after a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, has faced criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy described the agreement as a "gift" to Putin, cautioning that easing restrictions on Russian diesel exports could potentially finance Moscow's military efforts.
