Hangzhou: Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced on Monday that the cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is on the rise, even as global political and economic conditions remain unstable. This statement was made during the 30th regular meeting of the China-Russia heads of government in Hangzhou, China, as detailed in a statement from the Russian government.
According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting was attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who had earlier engaged in discussions with Mishustin. Premier Li expressed Beijing's readiness to enhance cooperation with Moscow to better defend their shared interests. During the meeting, Mishustin emphasized the initiation of new large-scale projects between the two nations, which encompass the development of oil and gas fields, the production of high-tech equipment, and collaborative efforts in energy sectors, peaceful nuclear energy, as well as space and lunar exploration.
Mishustin highlighted ongoing joint programs in aviation and automotive manufacturing, the development of transport corridors, and work under the challenging conditions of the Arctic. He noted the alignment of broad common interests and similar perspectives on fundamental issues between the two countries. Additionally, he remarked that the significance of the dollar and euro in their trade transactions has diminished to a negligible level.
The Russian Prime Minister expressed aspirations to boost tourism between Russia and China, aided by the move towards a visa-free regime for Russian travelers to China. He mentioned that efforts are underway, under the guidance of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to implement similar visa-free travel arrangements for Chinese citizens visiting Russia.
Mishustin also conveyed Russia's willingness to increase exports of Russian food products, which have gained popularity among Chinese consumers. He extended an invitation to Premier Li to attend the upcoming Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting in Moscow scheduled for November 17-18.
In response, Premier Li emphasized China's commitment to working with Russia to enhance strategic communication, strengthen cooperation across various domains, and safeguard mutual development and security interests. This sentiment was reported by state news agency Xinhua, which highlighted China's determination to further the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era.
The meeting concluded with the signing of several agreements, including a joint communique. Mishustin's visit to China, which began earlier on Monday, includes plans to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.
