Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday that he has not been presented with any European plan to end the ongoing war, despite several European nations proposing peaceful resolutions. Zelenskyy emphasized during a briefing that while there are various European perspectives and proposals for peace, he has not received a consolidated plan.
According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy stated that both US President Donald Trump and European leaders have yet to persuade Russia to enter direct negotiations. Since beginning his second term in January, Trump has taken the lead in trying to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska in August and suggested a trilateral meeting involving Zelenskyy. However, Russia insists that any meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy must be well-prepared and yield tangible results.
Plans for a new summit between Trump and Putin in Budapest did not materialize. Zelenskyy mentioned that while advisory-level consultations are underway, no conclusive plan has been formulated. Should a plan materialize involving Europe, Ukraine intends to discuss it with the United States, recognizing the Americans have their strategic vision.
Details about the European peace plan remain limited, but it reportedly proposes a ceasefire along the current line of contact, followed by negotiations to end the war. Additionally, Zelenskyy revealed that a US delegation is scheduled to visit Ukraine next week to discuss a drone production agreement. Strategic Adviser Oleksandr Kamyshin will represent Ukraine's exports throughout Europe, while National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov will manage outreach efforts in the Middle East and Asia.
Zelenskyy also highlighted Ukraine's financial shortfall, noting a $750 million gap in the $2 billion needed for gas imports. However, he acknowledged an upcoming infusion of 127 million pounds in European support. The president emphasized the importance of ongoing virtual meetings with global leaders to coordinate assistance for Ukraine's energy sector, with the next session planned for the following week.
