Bugesera:Kigali Rwanda is set to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix in the early 2030s, marking the sport's return to Africa for the first time in nearly four decades under a newly announced 10-year agreement.

According to Anadolu Agency, the deal was unveiled at a news conference in Kigali, attended by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Formula 1 President and CEO Stefano Domenicali, and International Automobile Federation (FIA) President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

The first race will take place following the completion of a new circuit in Bugesera, about 40 kilometers south of Kigali. This circuit will be developed to meet FIA Grade 1 standards, necessary for hosting Formula 1 races. The location is near the new Kigali International Airport.

Rwanda launched its bid to host a Formula 1 race in December 2024 during the FIA's annual meetings in Kigali. The agreement will see Formula 1 return to Africa for the first time since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at the Kyalami circuit.

Further details, including the inaugural race date and race weekend arrangements, will be announced at a later stage.
