Saudi and Omani Diplomats Discuss Hormuz Security Amid US-Iran Tensions

Muscat: The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia and Oman engaged in discussions in Muscat on Wednesday, focusing on regional developments and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz due to renewed tensions between Iran and the US. The meeting highlighted the significance of securing maritime routes and ensuring navigation freedom in the critical waterway.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Saudi Foreign Ministry revealed that Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi exchanged perspectives on both regional and international developments. The discussions centered on maintaining security and stability in the Strait of Hormuz, a pivotal maritime chokepoint for global energy exports. They emphasized resolving disputes through dialogue and peaceful means while supporting efforts to enhance regional security.

Additionally, the ministers explored strengthening cooperation across various sectors, aiming to advance the strategic partnership between Saudi Arabia and Oman and to promote joint Gulf cooperation. The dialogue included discussions on joint strategic projects, such as a planned land border crossing and cooperation on transport networks to boost regional integration.

The talks also addressed expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, fostering public-private partnerships, and leveraging opportunities in sectors of mutual interest. This dialogue aims to advance bilateral cooperation and enhance ties between the two nations.

The meeting occurred against the backdrop of renewed tensions between the US and Iran, marked by recent Iranian attacks on three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and subsequent US-Iranian strikes. The strait remains a crucial passage for a significant share of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports from Gulf producers.
