Saudi Arabia to Host GCC, Jordan, and Egypt Leaders for Informal Talks in Riyadh

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia is set to host a meeting on Friday for the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, along with Jordan and Egypt.

According to Anadolu Agency, the state news agency SPA reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will meet with the leaders of these seven countries in what has been described as 'an informal brotherly meeting' in Riyadh. This meeting continues a tradition of private gatherings that have occurred regularly among the leaders of the GCC states, Jordan, and Egypt over the years.

The SPA indicated that the agenda for an upcoming Arab summit will be a key topic of discussion during the meeting. This summit is crucial as it pertains to Egypt's announcement of hosting an emergency Arab summit on March 4. The goal is to discuss plans for rebuilding the Gaza Strip without displacing its Palestinian residents.

This emergency summit is a response to a proposal by US President Donald Trump, who suggested taking over Gaza and resettling its inhabitants after Israel's actions in the region. Trump's vision was to develop Gaza into what he termed as 'the Riviera of the Middle East.' However, this plan has faced widespread rejection from the Arab world and other international communities, who view it as a form of ethnic cleansing.

Last week, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi confirmed that Egypt is preparing a comprehensive plan to rebuild Gaza. The plan aims to ensure that Palestinians remain in their homes, countering Trump's controversial proposal.
