Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Missile Targeting Riyadh

Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition announced the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by Yemen's Houthi group toward Riyadh. This incident followed reports of explosions and a security warning in the Saudi capital.

According to Anadolu Agency, coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki confirmed that the Houthis launched the missile toward Riyadh, which was subsequently shot down and destroyed. Prior to the interception, Saudi Civil Defense issued an alert on the US social media platform X, warning of a potential danger in Riyadh.

The warning was followed by reports of explosions in the capital. However, Saudi Civil Defense later stated that the threat had passed, advising residents to adhere to safety instructions and refrain from gathering or filming.

This event occurs amid rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group, which has been involved in missile and drone attacks against the kingdom. In return, the Saudi-led coalition has conducted airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has led military efforts to support Yemen's internationally recognized government against the Houthis, who have controlled Sanaa and other provinces since September 2014.
