Saudi-Led Coalition Intercepts Houthi Missiles Aimed at Southwestern Saudi Arabia

Khamis Mushait:The Saudi-led coalition reported that it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched by Yemen's Houthi group targeting the southwestern city of Khamis Mushait.

According to Anadolu Agency, the announcement of the interceptions was made by coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki on the US social media platform X.

Just before this announcement, the Saudi Civil Defense issued "potential danger" alerts in Riyadh and the southwestern cities of Abha and Khamis Mushait through its national early warning system, but later confirmed that the threat had passed.

Earlier, on Saturday, al-Maliki stated that coalition forces had intercepted and destroyed four drones over several hours in the Riyadh region, Eastern Province, and southern Saudi Arabia. The coalition also released footage purportedly showing strikes that destroyed two ballistic missile launchers in Saada, northern Yemen, after they had been used in missile launches toward Saudi Arabia.

These events occur amid ongoing military escalations between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthi group since July, involving attacks on civilian aviation facilities and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia has led a military coalition since March 2015 to support Yemen's internationally recognized government against the Houthis, who have held control of Sanaa and several other provinces since September 2014.
