Riyadh:The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen announced on Thursday the interception and destruction of three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh and Khamis Mushait.
According to Anadolu Agency, coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki stated on the social media platform X that two missiles were aimed at the Saudi capital, while another targeted Khamis Mushait in the southwestern Asir region.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree issued a warning to experts, engineers, and other workers at Saudi oil facilities, advising them to avoid locations considered 'targets' by the group. This warning pertains to both previously targeted facilities and other sites that could be targeted in future operations.
Saree also reiterated the group's warning to airlines, airport workers, and passengers about airspace and airports previously declared as subject to Houthi military operations. Earlier on Thursday, he claimed that a ballistic missile strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh disrupted air traffic and renewed warnings to international airlines in Saudi airspace, except over Mecca and Medina.
These developments occur amid increased Houthi missile and drone attacks on Saudi airports, military sites, and oil infrastructure. Meanwhile, Yemeni government forces have launched a new offensive, Operation 'Dawn of Yemen,' to restore state institutions and reclaim territory held by the Houthis.
The conflict in Yemen has persisted since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in 2014, leading to the Saudi-led coalition's intervention in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government. Fighting resumed in July after a period of relative calm following the 2022 truce.
