Belgrade: Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic signed a decree on Wednesday dissolving the National Assembly and announced early parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25, according to broadcaster RTS. This move comes after a proposal by the government on September 7.

According to Anadolu Agency, the decree states that the parliament elected on December 17, 2023, has been dissolved. President Vucic also signed a decision to hold the parliamentary elections on October 25.

President Vucic acknowledged the significant turbulence in domestic politics over the past year and a half. He emphasized that the unrest was not solely the result of conflicts between political parties or actors within Serbia but also due to interference from foreign powers, leading to societal divisions and unrest.

Vucic called for political opponents to engage in dialogue, highlighting the importance of conversation in conflict resolution. He stated, "Exchange of words and arguments always helps in resolving conflicts." He urged for election results that would clearly reflect the citizens' will regarding the future direction of Serbia.
