Singapore Launches Nationwide Movement to Manage Children’s Digital Activities

Ankara: Singapore on Sunday launched a nationwide movement to help families foster healthy digital habits in children by reducing their screen time. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong introduced the "Screen Smart From The Start" campaign, which aims to assist parents in managing their children's digital activities, according to a statement from his office.

According to Anadolu Agency, the campaign was designed to provide parents with the necessary resources to cultivate healthy digital habits in their children from an early age. As part of the initiative, parents can now access the "Be Screen Smart" portal, offering tailored tips for different age groups: 0 to six, seven to 12, and 13 to 18.

The portal provides guidance on curating content to shield children from inappropriate online material and establishing clear family norms regarding device usage. Prime Minister Wong highlighted that while previous generations worried about comics, TV, and video games, today's challenges are more intense due to addictive features, harmful content, and toxic online interactions.

Wong recommended strategies such as no phones during family meals and avoiding phones in the bedroom to prevent late-night usage. He also advised parents to delay giving smartphones to their children as long as possible.

Additionally, the portal will feature a variety of offline activities suitable for families with children of all ages, beginning with the upcoming June school holidays.
