Los angeles: Spanish actor Javier Bardem called for peace and Palestinian freedom while presenting an award Sunday at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, California.

According to Anadolu Agency, while presenting the Oscar for best international film, Bardem began his remarks at the podium by emphatically stating 'No to war' and 'Free Palestine.' The actor made his stance even more visible by wearing a pin with the Spanish phrase 'No a la guerra,' translating to 'No to war,' alongside another pin supporting Palestine.

The context of Bardem's statement comes in the wake of a severe conflict initiated by Israel in Gaza in October 2023, which lasted two years and continues to affect the region. The conflict has resulted in the death of more than 72,000 Palestinians, injured 172,000, and led to the destruction of 90% of the enclave's civilian infrastructure.
