Gaza: The Strait of Hormuz will reopen for transit only when transit revenues are used to compensate for damages from the war, Iran's presidential office said Sunday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Mehdi Tabatabai, the deputy for communications and information at the Iranian President's Office, announced via the US social media platform X that the reopening of the vital waterway is contingent upon the allocation of transit revenues to compensate for all damages caused by what he termed as the "imposed war."

Tabatabai criticized US President Donald Trump, accusing him of resorting to insults and nonsense due to desperation and anger. He also blamed Trump for initiating a large-scale conflict in the region while continuing to boast about it.

The region has been on high alert since a joint offensive by the US and Israel on Iran commenced on February 28, resulting in over 1,340 fatalities, including the death of the then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has conducted drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries with US military assets.

In addition to these military actions, Iran has restricted the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime passage for global oil shipments.
