Stray Kids and BTS Choose Not to Participate in 2027 Grammys

Seoul:South Korean K-pop group Stray Kids will not participate in the 2027 Grammy Awards, as they have decided not to submit any music for consideration. This decision has been confirmed by the group's agency, JYP Entertainment.

According to Anadolu Agency, Stray Kids are following in the footsteps of BTS, who also decided not to submit any work for the 2027 Grammys. The decision comes amidst ongoing discussions about the introduction of a new category for Asian pop music at the awards.

The newly introduced category, Best Asian Pop Music Performance, will be featured for the first time at next year's Grammy Awards. This category encompasses music styles such as K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop, and requires eligible recordings to incorporate "meaningful use" of Asian languages.

Despite facing criticism, the Recording Academy announced its decision to proceed with the new category after consulting with members of the Asian music community. Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. acknowledged the opposition but noted there was significant support for maintaining the category.

BTS, in their announcement back in July, expressed hope that music would be appreciated for its intrinsic qualities rather than being categorized by region or language. Earlier this year, all eight members of Stray Kids were invited to become voting members of the Recording Academy.

The 69th Grammy Awards are set to take place on February 7, 2027.
