Paris:Student-led protests took place across France, with organizers reporting a nationwide turnout of 450,000 participants, while the Interior Ministry estimated 256,000. These demonstrations were part of a broader movement addressing concerns over staffing shortages, overcrowded classrooms, and inadequate school facilities.
According to Anadolu Agency, the protests, described as the third phase of mobilization by organizers, saw significant participation in Paris, with youth inter-unions reporting 100,000 demonstrators. In contrast, the Interior Ministry reported 56,000 participants in the capital.
The Education Ministry reported that 891 schools were affected by the protests, with classes fully or partially suspended in about a quarter of them. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez noted several dozen blockades or gatherings were reported outside high schools in cities such as Strasbourg, Rennes, Lyon, Nimes, and Toulon.
Education Minister Edouard Geffray requested all education authorities to identify schools struggling with teacher absences and to respond within eight days. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu commented on instances of violence, asserting that 'ultraviolence has knocked on the door of high schools' and emphasized zero tolerance for violence. He also defended police actions and dismissed allegations of instructed police repression as falsehoods.
