Sudan Resumes Domestic Flights to Khartoum Airport After Long Hiatus

Khartoum: Sudan has resumed domestic passenger flights to Khartoum International Airport, marking the first such operation since the onset of conflict with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in April 2023. A Sudan Airways aircraft successfully landed at the airport, arriving from Port Sudan, as reported by state media.

According to Anadolu Agency, the flight carried civilian passengers and was operated by Sudan Airways, ending nearly two years of suspended air operations due to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF. This operation underscores Sudan Airways' dedication to fulfilling its role in supporting air transport, reconnecting various Sudanese cities, and alleviating travel challenges faced by citizens since the war erupted.

State news agency SUNA highlighted the event as a 'significant milestone' towards the gradual resumption of flights to Khartoum airport. It also signals a new phase of recovery and relative stability, with life beginning to return to normal in the capital. In a previous announcement made in October 2025, Sudan's Civil Aviation Authority had expressed intentions to reopen the airport, although it faced several drone attacks targeting the facility. The Sudanese army reported intercepting drones launched by the RSF during that period.

The closure of Khartoum International Airport, the primary aviation hub in Sudan, had severely affected air travel across the nation due to its strategic location and substantial capacity.
