El-fasher: The Sudanese army announced it successfully repelled a new attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state. The army reported causing substantial losses in both personnel and equipment to the RSF during the confrontation.

According to Anadolu Agency, the army's statement detailed the involvement of the 6th Infantry Division along with supporting forces in defending the city. The statement emphasized that the forces managed to maintain control over all strategic areas within El-Fasher. Despite the army's assertions, the RSF has yet to release any comments regarding the attack or the military's claims.

The El-Fasher Resistance Committees, representing local grassroots movements, reported that while the city experiences tense calm, the intensity of the clashes has decreased. However, an official casualty toll has not been established yet.

El-Fasher, a crucial center for humanitarian activities in Darfur, has faced ongoing RSF sieges and clashes over the past year. Efforts by international entities to negotiate a truce and facilitate aid distribution have not succeeded thus far.

The conflict between the army and RSF, ongoing since April 2023, has resulted in significant casualties and displacements. The UN and local authorities report over 20,000 deaths and the displacement of 14 million people. Contrastingly, research from US universities suggests a death toll closer to 130,000.
