Burgenstock: Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis on Sunday convened with US Vice President JD Vance and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Burgenstock, Switzerland, as pivotal US-Iran discussions continue.

According to Anadolu Agency, Cassis emphasized Switzerland's appreciation for Pakistan's significant contribution to the ongoing dialogue regarding the implementation of the recently agreed-upon Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Following his meeting with Sharif, Cassis conveyed on US social media platform X Switzerland's commitment to supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation, enhancing regional stability, and fostering lasting peace.

In a separate statement post his interaction with Vice President Vance, Cassis highlighted the enduring trust between Switzerland and Iran, underlined by Switzerland's role as a protecting power. This relationship, he noted, remains dedicated to diplomacy and the pursuit of peace and security in the Middle East. Cassis reiterated Switzerland's willingness to offer its diplomatic services whenever necessary.

Cassis further remarked that initiating these talks in Switzerland marks a crucial first step towards implementing the US-Iran memorandum of understanding. He reflected on Switzerland's longstanding role as a protector of US interests in Iran, emphasizing the trusted relations Switzerland maintains with both nations.

The US and Iranian delegations arrived in Switzerland early for technical negotiations under the MoU, which was signed on Wednesday. The agreement aims to resolve the prolonged Middle East conflict and aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing discussions in Burgenstock are spearheaded by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian representatives, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, with Pakistan facilitating the mediation.
