Damascus: A Syrian investigative committee announced Tuesday that 1,426 civilians and military personnel were killed and 20 others went missing during violent clashes in the coastal region in March 2025.

According to Anadolu Agency, the figures were presented at a press conference in Damascus by the committee head, Jumaa Al-Anzi, and spokesperson Yasser Al-Farhan. The committee revealed that roughly 200,000 armed fighters launched an offensive on Syria's coast in March, with the intention of reclaiming it from remnants of the former regime. The large-scale assault led to what the panel described as 'violations.'

The committee noted that some of the armed elements were not affiliated with the government, resulting in incidents of killing, looting, and sectarian slurs. These incidents contributed significantly to the death toll and the chaos experienced in the coastal region during this period.
