Manama: Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa held discussions on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional issues during a meeting at Sakhir Palace.

According to Anadolu Agency, Bahrain's official news agency reported that King Hamad received President al-Sharaa and his delegation, with Bahrain's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa also in attendance. The talks focused on fostering cooperation in various fields and addressing regional developments, particularly concerning Syria's security and stability.

The discussions explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors such as trade, civil aviation, energy, health, and education. Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif Al Zayani, addressing a news conference with Syrian counterpart Asaad Al-Shaibani, emphasized the historic and fraternal relations between the two nations and the mutual benefits of enhanced cooperation.

Shaibani highlighted the significance of the visit, describing it as a pivotal moment for the two countries to embark on a path of collaboration and integration. He also reiterated the call to lift economic sanctions on Syria, citing their impact on civilians and reconstruction efforts.

The meeting concluded with President al-Sharaa's departure from Bahrain, where he expressed gratitude for the hospitality received. His visit to Bahrain marks his first official trip to the country and is part of a broader regional tour following the political shift in Syria with Bashar Assad's departure to Russia.
