Ankara: Syria's Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani met with Nechirvan Barzani, the president of Iraq's northern Kurdish region, to discuss reconstruction and economic cooperation in Syria.

According to Anadolu Agency, the meeting took place in Germany on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, which began Friday and runs for three days. The discussions focused on Syria's economic situation and the country's postwar reconstruction, emphasizing the importance of strengthening economic and development ties in the future.

Barzani expressed his support for Syria's unity and stability, stating that they are crucial for the stability of Iraq and its Kurdish region. He also commended Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa for recent initiatives, particularly a presidential decree concerning the rights of Syrian Kurds.

In January, President Sharaa issued a decree acknowledging the cultural and linguistic rights of Syrian Kurds and addressing various civil and legal issues affecting stateless residents. This move aimed to create an inclusive state that upholds citizens' rights without discrimination.

Additionally, the Syrian government announced a 'comprehensive agreement' with the YPG/SDF organization to end internal divisions and promote integration. This agreement includes the northeastern cities of Hasakah and Qamishli, complementing a previous deal signed on January 18.
