Caracas: Thousands of people have been affected by floods caused by heavy rains in western Venezuela, damaging dozens of homes, according to media reports. Torrential rains that have been falling for days in the western states of Merida, Trujillo, and Tachira have caused widespread flooding.

According to Anadolu Agency, authorities reported that 8,400 people were evacuated due to the floods, with 25 bridges destroyed and more than 150 homes seriously damaged. President Nicolas Maduro announced that military and civilian resources had been dispatched to the disaster area and aid was being delivered to those affected.

The Jose Antonio Paez highway, which is crucial for connecting western states and holds significant economic importance, has been closed to traffic as a result of the disaster. Additionally, agricultural lands in several towns have been submerged, leading to considerable financial losses for the public, as indicated by preliminary reports.
