Ankara: Trkiye and Iraq have taken significant steps to enhance their bilateral relations through the signing of five pivotal agreements. These agreements, which were formalized on Tuesday, aim to foster cooperation in crucial sectors such as transportation, education, industrial property, youth and sports, and infrastructure development.

According to Anadolu Agency, the accords were finalized following discussions between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the presidential complex in Ankara. One of the key documents signed was a memorandum of understanding between Trkiye's Transport and Infrastructure Ministry and Iraq's Transport Ministry. This memorandum focuses on advancing railway and road transportation through the Ovakoy-Fishkhabur border crossing.

Additionally, a framework agreement was signed to develop Iraq's transportation infrastructure in return for natural resources. Other agreements included initiatives to promote educational and academic cooperation between the Turkish National Police Academy and the Iraqi Police College, as well as collaborations in youth and sports and industrial property between the respective ministries.

During a joint news conference, Erdogan highlighted the extensive discussions on regional developments in Iran, Syria, and Palestine, alongside bilateral cooperation in security, counterterrorism, energy, and transportation. He emphasized Trkiye's commitment to the security and stability of Iraq, viewing it as inherently linked to its own national security.

Erdogan expressed a vision for the region's future, aiming for development and stability rather than conflict and terrorism. He reiterated Trkiye's dedication to achieving a "terror-free Trkiye" and a broader "terror-free region." Furthermore, Erdogan assured that Trkiye stands ready to supply Iraq with defense industry products, emphasizing ongoing cooperation in security matters.
