Trkiye Backs US-Iran Agreement, Urges Steps to Preserve Momentum

Ankara: Trkiye's National Security Council, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has expressed support for the agreement reached between Iran and the United States, emphasizing the need to maintain the diplomatic process. This announcement was made during the council's meeting in Ankara, as communicated by the Turkish Communications Directorate on the NSosyal platform.

According to Anadolu Agency, the council conveyed satisfaction with the agreement and highlighted the necessity of avoiding any disruptions to the process. Trkiye pledged to continue its active involvement in initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.

The council also addressed ongoing issues in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Lebanon. It criticized Israel's actions, including ceasefire violations in Gaza, "settler terrorism" in the West Bank, attacks on East Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and threats to Lebanon's sovereignty. The council urged the international community to take a principled stand against what it termed as Israel's disregard for humanitarian values and international law.

Regarding Cyprus, the council reiterated Trkiye's commitment as a guarantor power to protect the security, peace, and welfare of Turkish Cypriots. It stated that Trkiye would not allow any actions that could undermine the rights of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus or destabilize the Eastern Mediterranean.

The council also reviewed the situation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, calling on those responsible for the escalation to take steps towards achieving a just and lasting peace, particularly in light of the conflict's impact on the Black Sea and neighboring regions.
