Ankara: Trkiye has ramped up its border and airspace security in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, as Defense Minister Yasar Guler condemned on Wednesday Israel's military strikes on Iran and warned of regional destabilization. During a video conference with commanders, Guler emphasized that Trkiye has been closely monitoring the situation since the attacks began and is taking 'comprehensive and robust measures' to secure its territory.
According to Anadolu Agency, Guler stated, 'Under the directives of our president, we are acting with a proactive security paradigm.' He highlighted the close coordination with relevant institutions to assess all scenarios that could affect the country. Guler condemned Israel's recent strikes against Iran, describing them as unlawful and indicative of a broader intent to spread conflict across the region. He criticized Israel's operations in Gaza, Lebanon, and now Iran, accusing the nation of dragging the region into chaos.
The defense minister also revealed Trkiye's long-term defense strategy, which includes the development of an integrated air defense system called the 'Steel Dome.' This system is anticipated to work alongside the country's domestically developed fighter jet, Kaan, and a variety of missile systems. Guler emphasized the goal of achieving the highest defense capacity through the 'Steel Dome' air defense system, under the leadership of the president.
He concluded by reaffirming Trkiye's commitment to actively shape regional developments rather than merely observe them. Guler stated that Trkiye will continue to implement multidimensional and in-depth defense and security policies effectively, taking all necessary steps without hesitation.
