Filyos:Trkiye The deployment of the Osman Gazi floating production platform to the Black Sea marks the beginning of a new chapter in Trkiye's energy history, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced in a video message on Saturday. The platform departed from Filyos Port in Zonguldak province, ushering in what Erdogan described as a brand-new page for the country's energy sector.
According to Anadolu Agency – English, Erdogan initially announced the acquisition of the floating production platform in July 2024. By May 2025, the Osman Gazi platform was transferred from Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul to Filyos. The platform is seen as the first production facility of Trkiye's maritime vision, the "Blue Homeland," under the Century of Trkiye initiative.
The platform is equipped with 21 different units designed to process natural gas from the Sakarya Gas Field and transport it to Filyos via subsea pipelines. Erdogan highlighted that natural gas production in the Black Sea is expected to double to 20 million cubic meters per day, with plans for one-third of households to use domestic natural gas by 2027.
Osman Gazi measures 298.5 meters in length, 56 meters in width, and 29.5 meters in depth, accommodating 140 personnel. It is anticipated to operate continuously in its Black Sea location for 20 years, contributing $3.5 billion annually to Trkiye's economy.
Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar emphasized the platform's significance at the Filyos Port ceremony, noting it as Trkiye's first floating natural gas processing facility, which will elevate daily gas production to 20 million cubic meters by 2027. The Communications Directorate confirmed the platform's long-term operational plans and its role in meeting the energy needs of 8 million households.
