Tokyo: A Trkiye-Japan economic partnership agreement seeking to reduce the imbalance in bilateral trade is still under negotiation, the Turkish trade minister said on Thursday. Attending a Trkiye-Japan CEO Round Table Meeting in the capital Tokyo, he stated: "We believe that the agreement will be a strategic tool for diversifying and balancing trade, increasing investments, and establishing a true 'win-win' partnership."

According to Anadolu Agency, as the negotiations approach their final stages, the minister expressed confidence in finding common ground that respects both sides' sensitivities and opens up new opportunities. He emphasized Trkiye's position as a 'regional center' in production and logistics, with access to markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The trade volume between Trkiye and Japan last year reached $5.4 billion.

Trkiye noted an 11.4% increase in its exports to Japan last year, the minister reported, while acknowledging that the structural imbalance in trade remains a significant issue. Both countries are committed to addressing this imbalance and establishing a more sustainable trade structure.
