Ankara: Turkish security forces "neutralized" 15 PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Iraq and northern Syria, Trkiye's National Defense Ministry announced Sunday. These operations were part of ongoing efforts to counteract terrorist threats in the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, seven PKK terrorists were "neutralized" in the Gara region and four in the Hakurk region through air operations conducted in northern Iraq between January 29 and February 7. The ministry stated on X that these actions are part of measures taken by the Turkish Armed Forces to counter terrorist organizations.

Additionally, the ministry reported that four PKK/YPG terrorists were "neutralized" in the Operation Peace Spring zone in northern Syria. The ministry emphasized its commitment to respond to any acts of terrorism with appropriate measures.

The term "neutralize," as used by Turkish authorities, signifies that the terrorists were either killed, captured, or surrendered. The PKK terrorists are known to hide in northern Iraq, using the area as a base for planning cross-border attacks against Trkiye.

Trkiye has been conducting anti-terror operations in northern Syria since 2016, with notable operations including Euphrates Shield, Olive Branch, and Peace Spring. These operations aim to prevent the formation of a terror corridor and promote the peaceful settlement of local populations.

The PKK/YPG has sought to exploit the instability following the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, attempting to establish a 'terror corridor' along Trkiye's border. The PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for over 40,000 deaths over its 40-year campaign against Trkiye.
