Ankara: Turkish security forces "neutralized" nine PKK/YPG terrorists in northern Syria, Trkiye's National Defense Ministry announced. The terrorists were attempting an attack on Turkish soldiers, the ministry stated on X. "We are determined to destroy terrorism at its source," it added, emphasizing that their fight will continue until the terrorists are eliminated from the region.

According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish authorities use the term "neutralize" to imply that the terrorists in question surrendered, were killed, or captured. In northern Syria, Ankara has launched a series of anti-terror operations since 2016 to prevent the creation of a terror corridor and to ensure the safe resettlement of residents. These operations include Euphrates Shield in 2016, Olive Branch in 2018, and Peace Spring in 2019.

In its 40-year campaign against Trkiye, the PKK, which is designated as a terrorist organization by Trkiye, the US, and the EU, has been responsible for the deaths of over 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants. The YPG is considered the Syrian branch of the PKK. The PKK/YPG has attempted to take advantage of the instability since the collapse of the Bashar Assad regime to intensify efforts to establish a 'terrorist corridor' along Trkiye's border.
