Berlin: Trkiye is aiming to become a carbon-neutral economy within 30 years, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced at the 6th Turkish-German Energy Forum in Berlin. The event was co-hosted with German Economic Affairs and Climate Action Minister Robert Habeck. According to Anadolu Agency, Bayraktar outlined plans for substantial renewable energy investments totaling $100 billion by 2035. He made a call to both experienced and new German investors to engage in Trkiye's energy transition. A key component of this transition is the country's roadmap to expand its wind and solar energy capacity significantly, from the current 31,000 megawatts to 120,000 megawatts by 2035. Bayraktar also discussed the strategic role of nuclear energy in Trkiye's decarbonization efforts. By 2050, Trkiye aims to develop its nuclear capacity further. With the inauguration of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant in the southern region, Trkiye expects to fulfill 10% of its electricity needs through nuclear energy. Habeck commended Trkiye as a valuable partner in trade and energy, noting its strategic geographical position and energy capabilities. He stressed the importance of leveraging these shared advantages to advance joint projects through established collaborative frameworks. Following the forum, Bayraktar and Habeck engaged in bilateral discussions and participated in a roundtable with energy executives, focusing on deepening cooperative efforts in the energy sector.
