Washington: US President Donald Trump announced billions of dollars in contributions for relief in the Gaza Strip at the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace in Washington, DC.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump stated that the war in Gaza is over, highlighting the global commitment to peace with 59 countries agreeing to aid Gaza through “unrelenting diplomacy.” Trump emphasized the importance of peace over conflict, noting that the US is contributing $10 billion to the new initiative.

Several countries, including Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait, have collectively pledged over $7 billion. Additionally, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is working on raising an extra $2 billion.

Trump also announced Japan’s plans to host a significant fundraiser, with expected participation from regional nations such as South Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore. He expressed optimism about potential involvement from China and Russia. Furthermore, FIFA is set to help raise $75 million for Gaza projects, potentially involving top football stars visiting the area.

Trump affirmed the Board of Peace’s commitment to transforming Gaza into a region of success and safety, expressing confidence that Hamas would honor its promise to disarm. He warned of severe consequences if they failed to do so.

US Ambassador to the UN Michael Waltz highlighted improvements in humanitarian aid flows into Gaza, with 4,200 aid trucks entering the territory weekly for 13 consecutive weeks, benefiting the entire population of 2.1 million Gazans.

Since Israel began its war in Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, it has resulted in significant casualties and infrastructure damage. Despite a ceasefire since Oct. 10, continued attacks have led to additional Palestinian casualties and injuries, as reported by Gaza’s Health Ministry.
