Washington: US President Donald Trump stated that Beijing has committed to not supplying weapons to Iran, as he vowed to ensure the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made these declarations on Wednesday, emphasizing China's satisfaction with the decision to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. He stated that the move benefits not only China but also the global community. Trump shared his remarks on his Truth Social platform, expressing optimism about the collaboration between the US and China.
Trump claimed that China has agreed to refrain from sending weapons to Iran, and he anticipates a warm reception from President Xi Jinping upon his upcoming visit to Beijing from May 14-15. This visit marks Trump's first trip to China in his second term, aiming to strengthen ties between the two nations. Trump highlighted the cooperative efforts, indicating that working together is preferable to conflict, while reassuring that the US remains capable of defending its interests if necessary.
These developments follow a halt in US-Iran discussions in Islamabad aimed at resolving Middle East conflicts. Subsequently, Trump announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which commenced at 1400GMT on Monday.
