Washington: US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday his intention to "soon" sign an order to ensure that employees of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) receive their pay amid an ongoing partial government shutdown, which has caused significant delays at airports.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump emphasized that the personnel of the department and their families have endured too much hardship. He stated that relief is forthcoming for these committed public servants who have continued their duties despite the challenges. He shared this message on his social media platform, Truth Social.

This announcement follows a similar order signed by Trump last week for Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) workers, also part of the DHS, to address staffing issues affecting airport operations. The President's recent comments coincided with the Senate's decision to send a funding deal for most of the DHS back to the House of Representatives on Thursday morning, suggesting a possible resolution to the prolonged partial shutdown.

Despite the Senate's action, the House of Representatives did not take any immediate steps on the funding agreement during its brief Thursday session. The partial shutdown of the Homeland Security Department has persisted since February due to disagreements over the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, with Democrats calling for significant reforms before agreeing to its funding. Trump has consistently opposed any funding arrangement that does not include ICE.
