Trump Claims Iran ‘Punished Greatly’ by US Naval Blockade

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed that Iran has been "punished greatly" by the naval blockade, describing the blockade as "so powerful, so effective."

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump made these remarks at the Steel Across America event held outside the White House. The event featured a 21-foot steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center's South Tower, displayed ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. During his speech, Trump emphasized that Iran would not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon and praised the US military for its operations against Iran. "The job they do is unbelievable," he stated.

Trump elaborated on the effectiveness of the blockade, expressing surprise at its success. "The blockade has been so powerful, so effective. Nobody thought it could go so well," he added.

In June, Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding following mediation by Pakistan and Qatar. This agreement aimed to cease hostilities and establish a framework for further negotiations. However, Tehran has accused Washington of violating the memorandum and not fulfilling its commitments. Iranian officials continue to assert that US military actions and the naval blockade must end for any reduction in tensions.
