Washington: US President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that he has successfully ended eight wars by leveraging trade measures and tariffs. "I've ended eight wars, largely because of trade and because of tariffs," Trump stated to reporters upon his arrival at the Kennedy Center.
According to Anadolu Agency, Trump defended his approach, emphasizing its national security benefits. He asserted that the tariff strategy is more effective in terms of national security. "If we go the other tariff route, and there are other routes we can go, it won't give you the same pure national security as this one," he said. "This one is swift and very powerful."
In response to questions about utilizing tariff revenues to reduce national debt instead of funding dividends, Trump expressed agreement but highlighted the significant revenue generated from tariffs. He proposed using these funds to provide "$2,000 tariff dividends" for most Americans, offering direct payouts to middle and lower-income individuals. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned that these dividends might take various forms beyond direct checks.
Trump also took to his Truth Social platform to advocate for the current tariff method, which is being reviewed by the US Supreme Court. He described it as "far more direct, less cumbersome, and much faster" than other options. "Speed, power, and certainty are, at all times, important factors in getting the job done in a lasting and victorious manner," he stated.
