Washington: US President Donald Trump has labeled Canada a "tariff abuser" in response to Ontario's recent decision to implement a 25% electricity surcharge on three US states. Trump declared that Washington would cease "subsidizing Canada" following this move.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump expressed his discontent on Truth Social, highlighting the existing high tariffs Canada imposes on US agricultural products, ranging from 250% to 390%. He criticized Ontario's new surcharge on electricity, emphasizing that such measures are not permitted. Trump reaffirmed his stance by stating that the US will no longer support Canada economically.

In his post, Trump mentioned that the US does not require Canadian cars, lumber, or energy and hinted at potential future consequences for Canada. He concluded his statement with his signature slogan, "MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

The electricity surcharge, announced by Ontario Premier Doug Ford on Monday, targets 1.5 million American homes as a countermeasure to Trump's tariffs. The affected US states include New York, Minnesota, and Michigan. Trump responded by indicating that the US tariffs are reciprocal and assured that the situation would be rectified by April 2, when the US plans to impose similar tariffs on countries that tax US imports.
