Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that he would not be attending a proposed emergency meeting of the Group of Seven (G7) countries in Paris. Trump cited uncertainties surrounding French President Emmanuel Macron’s political future as the reason for his decision.

According to Anadolu Agency, Trump addressed reporters at a White House briefing when questioned about his participation in the G7 emergency meeting proposed by Macron. He expressed skepticism about Macron’s political longevity, stating, “No, I wouldn’t do that… Emmanuel is not going to be there very long. And, you know, there’s no longevity there. He’s a friend of mine. He’s a nice guy. I like Macron, but he’s not going to be there very much longer.”

Earlier that day, Trump had shared a private message from Macron on his Truth Social platform. The message revealed Macron’s offer to arrange a meeting in Paris on Thursday afternoon, following the World Economic Forum (WEF) summit in Davos, Switzerland. The message included an invitation to a dinner with representatives from Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia. Trump posted a screenshot of the message with the caption: “Note from President Emmanuel Macron, of France.”
