Turkish Airlines Resumes Flights From Istanbul to Benghazi After 10-Year Hiatus

Istanbul: Flights from Istanbul to Libya’s northeastern city of Benghazi resumed on Tuesday after 10 years, according to the Turkish transport and infrastructure minister. Abdulkadir Uraloglu told Anadolu that Trkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines will be flying three times a week to Benghazi.

According to Anadolu Agency, Uraloglu stated that Turkish Airlines initially began flights to Benghazi in May 2009, operating regularly until their suspension in January 2015. The minister underscored Trkiye’s strategic geographical advantage and the investments made in the country’s aviation sector to leverage this position.

Uraloglu explained that Trkiye has been transformed into one of the world’s largest flight networks. The country’s geographical location provides access to 67 countries with a combined gross domestic product of $51.2 trillion within a four-hour-flight radius. This transformation has been supported by the construction of 32 new airports in Trkiye over the past 22 years, which now enable 58 domestic and 349 international destinations to be reached by air.

Additionally, Uraloglu noted that flights to Santiago and Chile also resumed in December 2024. Earlier in the same month, Turkish Airlines launched flights on the Istanbul-Kuala Lumpur-Sydney route, further increasing the total number of international destinations to 349.
