Ankara: British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan are set to meet on Monday in Ankara during Lammy's visit to Trkiye. The meeting is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation between the two nations across various fields.

According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan will emphasize Trkiye's commitment to its NATO ally and strategic partner, expressing satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations. The meeting will highlight the importance of security and counter-terrorism cooperation, as well as recognize the economic, trade, financial, defense industry, and tourism ties that drive relations between Trkiye and the UK.

Discussions will include negotiations to update the countries' free trade agreement, aiming to boost economic ties and increase trade volume. The two nations, both allies outside the European Union, will be acknowledged as essential elements of Europe's defense and security framework, with a focus on strengthening cooperation in the defense industry amidst a changing global security landscape.

The contributions of nearly half a million Turkish-origin citizens residing in the UK to bilateral relations will be acknowledged. The importance of maintaining close dialogue and coordinated cooperation on regional and global issues will also be emphasized.

The talks will address the Palestinian issue as crucial for peace and stability in the Middle East, while welcoming the recent ceasefire between Iran and Israel. Efforts to resolve nuclear energy disagreements will also be discussed. Additionally, the meeting will underscore the importance of ending the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomacy to achieve lasting peace, and following the lifting of sanctions on Syria, cooperation will be encouraged to aid in the country's recovery.

This visit marks Lammy's first official bilateral visit to Trkiye.
