Baku: Turkish first lady Emine Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres engaged in discussions on Tuesday to explore strategies for achieving global climate goals. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, held in Azerbaijan's capital, Baku. According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan informed Guterres about the ongoing initiatives of the Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, which she chairs, aimed at bolstering the fight against climate change. She expressed appreciation for Guterres' leadership and constructive contributions during this critical period. Earlier in the day, Erdogan addressed young climate volunteers at an event called "Ecological Education," where she emphasized scientists' warnings about the escalating climate crisis, which has surpassed measurable or predictable scales. She noted the increasing frequency of record-breaking heat, extreme rainfall, severe droughts, and destructive floods. Erdogan also visited a Zero Waste-themed pavil ion organized by the Turkish Communications Directorate, as well as a joint pavilion by the Zero Waste Foundation and Azerbaijan's Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
