Munich: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held several bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on Saturday. Fidan met with Keith Kellogg, the US president's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a post on X. Earlier, sources in the ministry said Fidan met with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and discussed the situation in Palestine and preparations for Gaza's reconstruction.
According to Anadolu Agency, Fidan also engaged in discussions with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, reviewing bilateral relations and recent developments in the Balkans. Further, he met with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev. Fidan's meeting with Marta Kos, the European Commission's commissioner for enlargement, underscored the importance of advancing Trkiye-EU relations with a focus on concrete steps. Fidan stated that Trkiye, as an EU member, could enhance the EU's influence in the region.
The Turkish foreign minister also held talks with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, where they discussed Syria's reconstruction, the ongoing government formation process, and the fight against terrorist organizations such as Daesh (ISIS) and PKK/YPG. Fidan further met with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Azerbaijan's foreign ministers, Elmedin Konakovic and Jeyhun Bayramov, discussing bilateral relations and regional developments.
In parallel sessions, Turkish Intelligence Organization (MIT) head Ibrahim Kalin attended the conference, which focused on themes of multipolarity and global and regional crises. Kalin participated in bilateral meetings and intelligence sessions, emphasizing the fragility of the Gaza ceasefire and the need for Israeli attacks to cease to allow humanitarian aid access. He also addressed Syria's transition, advocating for the lifting of sanctions and preventing terrorist group activities.
Kalin highlighted that due to Trkiye's geographical position, the nation is significantly impacted by developments in the Middle East and the Russia-Ukraine war. He stressed that peace is essential for global economic stability and pushed for a negotiated resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Munich Security Conference, a three-day event, is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
