Ankara: Trkiye's foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, on Monday held separate phone calls with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, and Pakistan's top diplomat, Muhammad Ishaq Dar, according to Turkish diplomatic sources. No further details were provided on the calls.
According to Anadolu Agency, a ballistic missile launched from Iran and entering Turkish airspace was neutralized by NATO air and missile defense systems deployed in the Eastern Mediterranean, Trkiye's National Defense Ministry said on Monday. A NATO spokesperson confirmed that the alliance had "again successfully intercepted an Iranian ballistic missile heading to Trkiye."
The region has been on alert since the US and Israel launched an air offensive on Iran on Feb. 28, resulting in more than 1,340 casualties, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Tehran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
