Cairo: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to visit Egypt on August 13-14 to engage in high-level discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and other senior officials. The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced the visit on Wednesday, highlighting its significance in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions will focus on enhancing bilateral ties, reviewing ongoing agreements, and promoting mutual investments to achieve the common objective of increasing the bilateral trade volume to $15 billion. Fidan is also expected to explore cooperation opportunities in areas such as hydrocarbons, electricity grid integration, energy infrastructure, and mining.

The visit will provide a platform to advance cooperation in military and defense sectors. Fidan will emphasize dialogue and diplomacy to address regional issues, supporting initiatives like the R4 platform, which includes Trkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia. The visit will also feature the second meeting of the Trkiye-Egypt Joint Planning Group, co-chaired by Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty.

Key regional topics like the Strait of Hormuz, Gaza, Syria, Libya, and the Eastern Mediterranean will be on the agenda. Fidan will express support for restoring the ceasefire between the US and Iran and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He will advocate for halting attacks in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid while discussing the Gaza Peace Plan and regional tensions involving Israel.

Furthermore, Fidan will underline the importance of stability and security in Libya, reaffirm Trkiye's support for Sudan's sovereignty, and discuss potential contributions to peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. Trkiye-Egypt relations have been progressing, with increasing high-level contacts and reciprocal visits. The bilateral trade volume, which reached $8 billion in 2025, aims to grow to $15 billion, supported by significant Turkish investments in Egypt.
