Ankara: Turkish National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin met with the speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives Haibat al-Halbousi to discuss regional and international issues, according to security sources.

According to Anadolu Agency, the discussions included potential steps to enhance cooperation, particularly in the security domain, and resolve existing challenges. The dialogue focused on cooperation mechanisms that would benefit both nations and bolster regional security and stability.

The meeting also touched on several key areas such as the rehabilitation of Iraq's water infrastructure, agricultural projects, as well as reconstruction, housing, and infrastructure projects. One of the prominent topics was the Development Road Project, which is expected to further economic ties between the two countries.

Further discussions involved strategies to deepen strategic and economic cooperation. A significant aspect of the dialogue was the process in Iraq of ensuring that weapons are under exclusive state control, which is a critical component of regional security efforts.

Al Halbousi expressed his support for Trkiye's Terror-Free Trkiye initiative, noting that its success would have substantial ramifications for the region. Both Kalin and al Halbousi agreed on the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation on both national and regional issues.
