London: The Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MUSIAD), a prominent Turkish non-governmental organization, is actively involved in efforts to enhance the Trkiye-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), as announced by the group's UK branch.

According to Anadolu Agency, MUSIAD UK officials presented a formal letter to Turkish Trade Minister Omer Bolat during his visit to the UK, expressing their dedication to improving the trade agreement. The initial negotiations aimed at revising the Trkiye-UK FTA are scheduled to begin in July.

Turkan Akbas, chairwoman of MUSIAD UK, highlighted that the organization has initiated a 'multidimensional campaign' to involve the public, policymakers, and business leaders in diversifying trade relations between the two nations. The campaign encompasses a comprehensive action plan that includes lobbying, institutionalizing business support, raising awareness through various media, building strategic partnerships, conducting data-driven analyses, and organizing a trade day between Trkiye and the UK.

Akbas emphasized MUSIAD UK's role as a strategic entity that fosters economic connections between Trkiye and the UK through a network of entrepreneurs operating in the UK. She noted that their efforts align with Trkiye's development goals and the UK's trade interests, aiming for the upgraded FTA to usher in a new economic phase in Trkiye-UK relations.

The process of upgrading the FTA, according to Akbas, extends beyond governmental discussions, incorporating active involvement from civil society. She expressed pride in being part of this inclusive process, committed to strengthening, sustaining, and diversifying the economic ties between the two countries.
