Istanbul: No terrorist group could commit a crime more grave than Israel's current genocide in Gaza, said Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus on Tuesday.

According to Anadolu Agency, Kurtulmus made these remarks at the Global Parliamentary Conference on Counter-Terrorism and the Prevention of Violent Extremism, organized by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism in Istanbul. He emphasized that the silence of some countries claiming to oppose terrorism in the face of Israel's actions is a significant issue. Kurtulmus provided statistics from UN reports, stating that over the past two years, more than 70,000 civilians have been killed, and over 180,000 have been wounded in Gaza.

Kurtulmus stressed the global condemnation of what he described as state terrorism, highlighting the formation of a global front of humanity determined to end Israel's actions in Gaza. He expressed gratitude to Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim, the speaker of Qatar's Shura Council, for supporting the event and underscored the strategic relations between Trkiye and Qatar.

He called for a collective approach to combating terrorism, emphasizing the need for international cooperation and institutional capacity-building. Kurtulmus commended the UN agency's humanitarian efforts and stressed the importance of supporting such missions.

Kurtulmus cited the recent incident involving the Gaza-bound Global Sumud aid flotilla as an example of the 'front of humanity.' He criticized the Israeli detention of participants in international waters as a grave crime against peaceful civilians, asserting that Israel's actions have proven its status as a terror state.

He argued that the fight against terrorism must address its root causes, including human rights violations, economic underdevelopment, and social inequalities. Kurtulmus condemned proxy wars as a tool that has expanded terrorism and called for an end to the arming and supporting of terrorist groups by certain countries.

Kurtulmus highlighted the role of arms suppliers in fueling terrorism in Africa and the Middle East, urging the international community to prioritize ending proxy wars. He presented Trkiye's new model for preventing terrorism, built on decades of experience, as a forthcoming solution to be shared globally.

The conference concluded with Kurtulmus and Qatar's Abdulla Al Ghanim posing for a family photo with other participants.
