Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday commemorated the Canakkale Victory during the Gallipoli campaign of the Ottoman Empire in World War I.

According to Anadolu Agency, Erdogan described Canakkale as a unique epic, emphasizing that it was not just a battle but also a testament to faith, sacrifice, love of homeland, and national consciousness. His message marked the 111th anniversary of March 18 Martyrs' Remembrance Day and the Canakkale Naval Victory, sentiments he expressed with great pride and excitement.

Erdogan paid tribute to "the heroes who made Canakkale impassable," noting that the struggle in Canakkale by those with hearts full of faith became a historical turning point. It was a sign that the Turkish nation would never relinquish its freedom and independence. He recalled the heroes from all over Anatolia who rushed to the front, defending their homeland at the cost of their lives, and highlighted the unity of the nation-men and women, young and old.

Erdogan further emphasized that this great resistance not only changed the fate of Turkey but also inspired oppressed nations worldwide. The heroism displayed in Canakkale, according to Erdogan, stands as one of the strongest symbols of the nation's brotherhood, solidarity, and shared destiny.
